Janet Carpenter grew up in Northeast Ohio where she graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Masters of Music Woodwind Specialist Degree. Her primary teachers included Mrs. Patricia Kroft, Dr. Pat Flowers, Dr. John Bentley, and occasional lessons with Mr. John Mack, and reed making lesson with Mrs. Valarie Anderson. She has also attended and participated at John Mack’s Oboe Camp and attends The International Double Reed Society Conferences.
Janet has teaching experience in the public and private schools, music camps, master classes, played principal oboe and English horn in the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, performed with the Belmont Woodwind Quintet, provided music for weddings, and church services, and taught oboe at Davidson College and Mars Hill College. She currently maintains a home studio, performs with the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra and the Lowcountry Wind Symphony as well as freelances in the lowcountry area.
She has published an article in the Double Reed Journal as well as published a modern edition of Johann Kalliwoda’s Serenade for Winds and Guitar available from Southern Music Company.
